After Storm Lidia, We Stand Strong

September 1, 2017.

Dear friends, donors and volunteers,

Once again, mother nature has dealt a blow delivered by the tropical storm Lidia which has caused some severe damage to many homes and the infrastructure in Los Cabos, as well as the regrettable loss of life. We would like to inform you that our Support Center in El Zacatal, San Jose del Cabo sustained no damage and in operating condition. Also, our staff and their families are also safe. We have toured the affected areas and we have seen that the authorities are doing their part in dealing with the crisis. Other major impacts to the infrastructure have been to the utilities, communications and services. The local, state and federal authorities are working effectively to reconnect the disrupted sectors throughout Los Cabos.

The electricity supply is gradually being restored, and the water supply will be normalized as the municipality rehabilitates the wells and the distribution network. Notably, the armed forces are out on full alert to prevent any acts of vandalism and to keep everyone safe, allowing businesses to operate normally. There is no serious shortage of food or fuel at this time.

We also know that the people most affected are those in the economically challenged neighborhoods whose poorly built homes have not stood up to the storm and have become destroyed or severely damaged as well as their belongings. We will be operating our Support Center to assist those who need us with clean and dry clothing which we have on hand. We will also complement our support with food items from our pantry, to the families we have previously been supporting. We will also ensure that our affected student scholarship holders can replenish their damaged school supplies and their families can receive the necessary help they will need by channeling them through to the appropriate agencies.

If you are presently not in Los Cabos and would like to support our efforts, the best and most direct way is with your cash donation. Our commitment to you is to always be responsible administrators of the contributions that you entrust to us. We have a reliable database, with well organised records and have direct and personal contact with the vulnerable population of San José del Cabo, whom we have been serving and supporting for the past twenty years.

Your donations will surely go a long way to help those in need as they begin to get their lives back to normal. As always, we greatly appreciate your generous support and look forward to reporting back to you the results of your contributions.

 With sincere gratitude,

Joseph Garcia, President, Board of Directors
