Nancy has been a longtime supporter of and volunteer with Liga MAC. She has led our English as a Second Language (ESL) program for twelve years, growing the program to 110 students and forty volunteers including developing a partnership with an area private school whose students also volunteer. She was able, with the capable assistance of ESL leaders, to provide a modified ZOOM program through two years of Covid. Nancy is a psychologist whose 30+ year practice included clinical work, programmatic development and intervention in school systems, supervision of graduate students in their internships and professor of psychology prior to retirement in 2010. Nancy has been a seasonal resident of SJD for fifteen years and spends the balance of her time in Boston.
Lina Gonzalez
Lina is a Mexican young and bright professional woman with a degree in tourism. Her vast working experience in the private sector has made her a project administration expert. Lina is business and results oriented, focused on problem solving with great communication skills. Lina is Liga MAC’s most recent addition to the board. Her energy and enthusiasm for helping our students is vitalizing.
Fernando Romero
I was born in La Paz Baja California Sur. I am a trial attorney with a master’s degree in criminal law and founder partner of the law firm “Romero Gomez Legal Advisor S. de R. L. de C.V. established in San José del Cabo B.C.S. I belong to the first generation of young professionals that Liga MAC graduated in the year of 2011, after supporting me and my family since 8th grade. I know from personal experience the meaning to wish for an education and progress and to be able to get it thanks to the help of good people. I am now a witness of all the hard work behind the support that I have received. I am proud to be now in the position to give back, so new generations have the same opportunity that I had.
Susan Cornelius
Susan Cornelius is from Seattle, Washington. She received her BS and MS degrees in nursing. She practiced for almost 40 years as a Nurse Practitioner. Susan has served on many boards in many areas, such as health education, adolescent foundations, boards of condominiums and now Liga MAC. She has supported education at all levels, from preschool to the graduate level at universities. Education is the key to more informed decision-making and, therefore a knowledge-driven life.
Julián Pontón
From Mexico City Julián Pontón arrived in Los Cabos 15 years ago. Entrepreneur who has created businesses as his digital marketing agency, clothing brand for women and vacation rental businesses. Altruistic to diverse causes like dog care shelters and activities for children in various communities in San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. He was invited 2 years ago to participate as a member of the Board of Directors for Liga MAC.
Maria Lindenberg
Maria is a recently retired senior executive (Fortune 25 company) who has been vacationing in SJD for 20+ years. Maria hails from Calgary, Alberta and has been a life long volunteer involved with various non-profit organizations in a wide variety of roles. She joined Liga MAC in January 2018 and participated in the ESL program as a classroom facilitator. As volunteer chair, her goal is to ensure all Liga MAC volunteers are well informed, engaged and organized to enable their hearts & minds to deliver maximum impact in support of our kids and their families.
Karen Castro
Karen is a certified bookkeeper and joined Liga MAC in 2017 for an internship. She is responsible for completing data entry, collect transactions, track debits, pays invoices, complete payroll, and maintain office supplies. She works closely with GBC Asesores – Padilla y Asociados, Liga MAC’s accounting firm. Karen also works directly in the operation and coordination of our service programs.
Consuelo Espinosa
Consuelo has a degree in Architecture and joined Liga MAC as a volunteer in 2016. Her experience in education and health services were key for her involvement in her role as the social worker for Liga MAC. She is in charge to carry out on-going social work services available to our students and their families, making sure that they are well-nourished, stay healthy and get the resources needed to overcome the obstacles that prevent them from succeeding at school.
Dr. Mauricio Mercado
Dr. Mauricio Mercado is an experienced internal medicine specialist and a geriatrician with a strong inclination to social medicine. In addition to his private practice, he works for the national health system at the Mexican Institute for Social Security (IMSS by its initials in Spanish). Dr. Mercado has volunteered with Liga MAC for over 10 years, not only as a physician, but as a board member as well. He was the mind who created our Health through Education Program, which was designed to educate the Liga MAC students and their families in basic areas of personal health care, such as healthy eating, regular exercise, and dental hygiene, to prevent obesity and its associated diseases. We are proud to have Dr. Mercado as our permanent honorary advisor member.
Tadd Chapman
Born in Canada, I grew up with a passion for food and began cooking and studying culinary arts at the age of 15. I migrated to San Jose los Cabos in 1998 later to naturalize as a Mexican Citizen on October 26th, 2006 and currently hold dual citizenship. Over the years have established myself as an accomplished, versatile and results-driven professional in the restaurant industry as well as a leader in the community. My experience as a chef and restaurateur has helped me refine my skills in leadership and staff management, property management, maintenance as well as proficiency while dealing with government and legal issues.
